Volunteering at Camp Northern Lights provides a fun, active and educational way for high school students to gain leadership experience while providing a week their campers will never forget.
In order to be eligible to counsel, applicants must have at least completed grade 9. Applicants are required to submit two letters of reference, a letter outlining why they're interested in camp, and a criminal record check report from their local police force.
In order to prepare for their week as counsellors, all new applicants are required to attend the three day Counsellor Orientation session, held on-site at camp in early July. This is a time for all new counsellors to meet the camp staff, to help prepare the facilities for upcoming summer and to start developing their skills as camp leaders. At the completion of the summer, all counsellors are invited to return for Counsellor Reunion; a chance to reminisce and to prepare the camp facilities for the 'off season'.
Camp is a fabulous high energy experience. Counsellors are expected to challenge their campers and themselves to be enthusiastic and eager to participate in camp programs. Prospective volunteers should be ready to participate in a non-stop schedule including swimming, canoeing, games, crafts, sing songs, meetings and basic chores. You may never work harder, but you may never have more fun.
